27 Waterfalls of Damajagua

11/03/15

Before we left the States, I had researched things to do in the Dominican Republic and came across an excursion called 27 Charcos (or Waterfalls). It went straight to the top of the list of what I wanted to do once we got there. Unfortunately when we arrived in Luperon in mid-August, there was a drought and not enough water was flowing through the falls. After months of waiting, it finally started raining, and we were able to go check it out.

The falls are located just outside of Imbert, which is sixteen miles from Luperon. You have three options: crawl up seven waterfalls and slide your way back down, hike about thirty minutes and jump/slide down twelve waterfalls, or hike an hour and go down twenty-seven waterfalls. We opted for the second one and paid 340 pesos per person (7.50 USD). It is such a cheap price for an awesome experience!!!

You definitely get a workout hiking up the mountain and the humidity was stifling, but it was well worth it.  The first jump you'll see in the video was about 20 feet high, and I almost did not do it since it was a little terrifying. To me, it seemed really high and you have to jump in a specific spot because it gets shallow really quick. But I told myself stop being a sissy and just do it! Pardon the curse word you will hear, but it just kind of came out. The rest of the waterfalls was just as exhilarating, and the journey down ended way too soon. It seemed to be over in the blink of an eye!

I highly recommend going if you are in the DR. We would have gone back to do the other two options if we would have had more time!

    1. Thanks. I uploaded the video to Dropbox since it has a better resolution than the video that I uploaded on blogger and updated the post. The one on FB wasn't the entire video. I deleted that one too and uploaded it again, but the resolution wasn't great.
